RAQ-ATTAQ!
RAQ seriously tore the roof off of the Visulite Theatre BOTH nights. SO glad thats where my crew and I decided on for our NYE 2006 Plans :) Also SOOO glad I was fortunate to be taping both nites :) What can I say? This show gets overlooked by the MONSTROUS NYE show but holds its own against ANY 2-set RAQ show Ive ever heard to be honest, let alone see live!
Thanks again to RAQ and of course to ALL of the great fans and the most righteous Taper's Section EVA as well! TS.COM represent :)
On to the music, the opening segment of the Loose>Hannah Can>Confuzor is downright KILLER! And then the Donkey Show/Stuck>Havah>Stuck is a SICK combo to an INCREDIBLE start to the NYE Run weekend. Then Botz>Gabvonie which will make you want to be NO other place in the world but Charlotte for NYE Run ;D And then Stoops pulls out the coveted Terrapin Station.
Onto Set II, heres where things get REALLY good! the Chuck>Shirley>Cafe>Shirley>Beauregard>Chuck speaks on its own. Does TOO-FUCKING-GOOD-TO-BE-TRUE ring a bell? It was a perfect placement and also PERFECT segues throughout. It was at this point on the 30th that I realized that the 31st was gonna kick EVERYONE'S ass. The 30th's show was already the best RAQ I have heard live, even on the 100+ recordings I had of them and especially in the 6-7 shows I've seen them live. The energy was NONSTOP, and thats a HUGE bonus for me at ANY show. If the energy is ON, everything falls into place. And anymore, its hard to find that special band and venue and exact moment where everything is just RIGHT. Well, thats how I felt BOTH nites of the NYE Run :) I knew I was in for a REAL treat on 12/31, to say the least!!! Then one of my fav segues ive heard live so far. The Push the Lil' Daisies>Nasty was just that, FREAKIN NASTY :) Nice intimate double encore after that and you have yourself a perfect nite of RAQ music! See all of you FREAKS tomorrow nite for NYE :) It's been REAL!
5.0 for the quality of the performance by RAQ and (not to sound biased) but 5.0 for the sound quality as well, even tho its my own recording! This show and the 31st ROCK. The sound in the Visulite was PERFECT! Thanks to the KILLER sound mix and to the Visulite and RAQ for allowing the tapers to setup on the front drink rail. Where the tapers were about 20ft from the stage and the sound was absolutely perfect!
